Named after the late child actor Jackie Coogan, the Coogan Trust Account is established and maintained by a parent or legal guardian for holding funds earned by the minor as an actor, writer, musician, singer, or other entertainment-related profession. The Coogan Account is funded directly by the minor's employer or agent as required by California law. Funds cannot be withdrawn until the minor reaches the age of 18, except by order of a court of law.

The custodian determines whether to make contributions for the minor until the minor attains age 18 or 21. When the beneficiaries reach the designated age, they receive the funds in the account.
