Sophisticated Smishing scam targets Sacramento area credit union members. Smishing is the practice of using fraudulent text messages to obtain personal and financial data in order to commit identity theft.

We have been informed of a Smishing scam focused on stealing debit and credit card information from credit union members in and around the Sacramento region. Targeted members have received text messages that appear to be from their credit union asking them to call the phone number provided. When they call, they are prompted by an automated message to enter card number, expiration date and PIN. Please be on the alert!
